Tails from the Back Seat: The Dog Days of Winter

Just over a month ago we celebrated the end of Winter and the Second Anniversary of our lives on the road, it was quite a celebration!!
(Images have been changed to protect the innocent!)
We ARE lucky dogs since we never have any cold, wet, winter weather to contend with, John and Susan always travel to places where it is sunny and warm just for us, so we can romp, swim, and play all year round!  Still, we do appreciate the change of seasons for our less-fortunate canine pals, especially April May and Suka Sue, our neighbors in Highland Forest in northern Idaho.

We thought it would be fun to recap our adventures over the past two years, especially this past winter when we were in Arizona, and also introduce the canine buddies we have met along the way.

Carly and Mandi of NJ were our first on-the-road playmates...
boy, did they have a nice yard!!!
Starting with our East Coast adventures in 2012 and early 2013....
Oscar of Shenandoah, VA was quite a ball player, he wore us out!!

We grew to like eating in the great outdoors...

Picnic tables are a perfect height for us.....
...that darn John!!

Being on the road is pretty exciting....

We're nearly always up for new sights and smells....

...but sometimes...
...not so much
There are streams to wade in.....

Strawberry Creek, Great Basin National Park, NV

Rivers to jump in.....

Virgin River, Zion National Park, UT

Lakes to swim in.....

Lake Havasu, AZ

Lake Superior, MI
Sticks to catch....

Flying Monkey Mesa, Zion National Park, UT

Great Basin National Park, NV
John with Wenden in Wenden, AZ
How cool...a town named after our pal Wenden!!!

Sometimes it is about the journey, not the destination....

Our daily morning walking partners in Lake Havasu, NV
Let us introduce you (from left): Rudy, Rowdy, (Jake & Karly), Rudy, and Katie

With Jackson in Bonners Ferry, ID

We like walking with Rupert, it is always an adventure...

Mittry Lake, Yuma, AZ
Zion National Park, UT

He always has his nose into something.

One day Karly's nose took her on an adventure, she ended up looking like a bruiser...don't think she'll do that again!!  Fortunately, it's the only casualty of the past two years.

But the best thing about being a dog on the road, is perfecting our relaxation techniques, we've even picked up a few tips from our pals!

April May and Suka Sue in ID

Lucy in Phoenix, AZ

Liza winters in AZ/summers in ID
Sophie was visiting in AZ

Echo winters in AZ/summers in ID
Gina winters in AZ/summers in ID
I think I've learned a lot!

We've discovered so many new things on the road too....

How to sing

How to pose

How to tolerate others (especially those who look like us!)

And there really are dinosaur bones out there, yum!!!

Jake even learned how to fish this past winter!!

Minnows, minnows everywhere

Watch out, I'm coming in

Whew, that's cold
Oh, I see how this is going to go
Time to get serious
Here comes one paw
Now the other
Time for a full body assault
Don't think I'm giving up
OK, maybe I should just stick with that fetching thing

In summary, our Winter has been "for the dogs"!!
But we're primed for Year Three and know that wherever we wander.....
we're always at home!!
Happy Spring to all!!
